Aquatherm Industries is the largest US manufacturer of solar swimming pool heaters, and well known for the Ecosun Solar Pool Heating Collector. Aquatherm has been in the solar business since 1976 when they introduced their original product, the Solar Industries Line. Out of 1.3 GW of solar capacity installed in 2008, solar heating accounted for over half of those GW. According to Dan, solar pool heating has the highest solar efficiency at 80% where PV panels only have a solar efficiency of 17%-20%. Aquatherm has a very simple installation procedure can extend the length of you pool season. Aquatherm guarantees their system for 12 years but they usually last from 15-20 years. I decided to build this to fight back at the electric company. I live in Florida, and if there’s one thing we have plenty of, it’s sunshine. This unit was fun and inexpensive to build, it will run for years maintenance free and provide my hot water heater with pre-heated water, so that it will not have to work very hard (maybe not even at all) to get the water up to desired temperature.
